Poems and strange mumblings
THAT OLDER GENERATION
By Doreen Yates and Jere Van Loan
June 2007
That older generation, are always in the
way
Most don’t hear what you have to
say
They drive on the inside lane so very
slow
Oh dear me, they say I’ve forgotten where to go
Using walkers and canes, to help them get
about
Drive you insane, because they always
shout
In supermarkets, they hold up the
queues
Cause that new brand leaves them confused
It's hard to believe they were young and
fun
Heroes and lovers beneath the golden
sun
Full of dreams of things they want to
be
Hope, wonder, and insane jealousy
Wit and wisdom can be their
friends
But some are plain stupid till the very
end
Souls of children in bodies grown
up
Grey hair and wrinkles fall into their cup
Cracked and bent, some just set
aside
To rust like toys and left
outside
When in plain and simple
truth
They are more alive than any youth
So show you care to those elder
saints
Who gave us breath and taught us to
paint
For if it was not for them showing us the
way
We would not be on Planet Earth today
