Poems and strange mumblings

Chocolate Brown

By Doreen Yates

September 2007

Chocolate brown in colour, Mini was her name

Only 1000cc engine, but she sure was not tame

She was my first car and my pride and joy

But this certainly was no play toy

She was only small, but drove like a dream

I was so proud, she seemed to smile and gleam

Roaring down that motorway, not scared at all

Big lorries passed her, but she stood proud and tall

I kept her for 3 years many places we did go

She never let me down, always ready for each show

Sparkling and bright, headlights flashing each night

Everyone said  “What a beautiful sight”

I took her on holiday to the coast of Cornwall

We drove her on the beach, the kids wanted to play ball

It was almost has though she wanted to join in

Her beautiful bonnet seemed to give a joyful grin.

She saw me through happiness and much heartache too

My memory of her will always remain true

But then I had to let her go and was so very sad

She was in an accident and it was so very bad

I had her repaired, but she was never the same

She took an awful bang that left her very lame

Never wanted to start in the morning any more

Seemed to lose her sparkle, to drive her was a chore

So one day we had a little talk just her and me

Her frame was shaking as she lay under the Old Oak tree

I put my hand on her hurt and said please don’t cry

You will get a new engine and a new family to try

I exchanged her next day for a blue Golf GTI

Her name was Rachel and her number ended in a Y

She drove like a dream, but my memory will always stay

My special chocolate brown mini, I love you still today
