Poems and strange mumblings
THINKING CAP
By Doreen Yates
July
2007
I wake up in the
morning
Open up my
thinking cap
Otherwise known as the
brain
Sometimes it behaves
itself
But some days it drives
me insane
If the sun shines and
people are kind
It will be ok, and don’t
mind
But if people shout, it
cry’s for goodness sake
You are giving me a
headache
It likes my poetry and
most music I play
From Rock, Jazz to
Classical it says
But Hip Hop and Rap it
sometimes does frown
It usually gives that
the old thumbs down
Some days it’s quick of
the mark
Eager as the birds and
up with the lark
Other days its got no
get up and go
And makes me move so,
well you know, slow
But today it seems its
full of life and zest
Telling me get dressed
and aim to look my best
Rushing today I am to
catch the 9.00 train
Queues on platform, oh
they are such a pain
Thinking cap says why
not catch the 9.30 instead
Your interview’s at ten,
no rush, slowly tread
Its right you know, I
should listen to it more
Instead of stamping and
flouncing that floor
Interview went well,
thanks to my thinking cap
Saying calm down and
don’t get yourself in a flap
Off to the shops now to
see what I can buy
From grocery to clothes,
have loads to get, oh my
Thinking Cap says now
steady on, slow down girl
Else you’ll get yourself
in a dizz and a whirl
I take its advice, after
all it is my brain
And today its done well
and kept this girl sane
My wonderful thinking
cap
